Recognizing a spring problem
A sudden loud bang, a visible gap in a torsion spring, or a door that feels unusually heavy can indicate spring failure. These symptoms need an inspection; they do not establish a diagnosis on their own.
Torsion springs and door balance
Torsion springs store energy to counterbalance the door. Replacement must be matched to the door, followed by a balance check and evaluation of related hardware. The opener should not compensate for a poorly balanced door.
Leave replacement to a professional
Springs and related lifting components are under high tension. Do not loosen spring hardware, disconnect lifting cables or try to force the door open. Keep the area clear and call to discuss service.
